Abstract
Quantum simulation is the most natural application of quantum computation, yet noisy quantum hardware still renders large-scale demonstrations challenging. In this talk, I present classical pre-processing routines that yield short-depth compilations for the two central building blocks of quantum simulation: initial state preparation and Trotter decomposition.
The former relies on a variational disentangling scheme for matrix product states (MPS), the latter on classical approximations of the Trotter error of parametrized circuits. Together, these routines enable optimized, short-depth circuit compilations that bring near-term quantum simulation demonstrations closer to reach.
